How to Give a Global Stimulus

For our national partners across the globe, hearing about the United States government “giving us money” as a stimulus package came as a surprise. One said it never occurred to her to consider that her government would help her financially during hard times. In the United States we have an opportunity to use what God’s graciously provided for us and leverage it for Kingdom impact.

Below are current COVID-related global stimulus opportunities for our national partners.

Caring for Refugees

Average Income: Refugees – none

COVID Impact: The most vulnerable population (refugees) in Bosnia were hardest hit, as the government closed refugee camps and placed new restrictions on food relief.

Ministry Opportunity: Our partners Zijah and Lorena in Bosnia have ramped up their efforts, providing food, clothing, housing, and care to refugees as they continue their outreach.

Cleaning Supplies for Seminary

Average Income: Less than $5 a day

COVID Impact Because of the virus, Faith Baptist Theological Seminary in Myanmar has to maintain sanitation standards in order to hold classes.

Ministry Opportunity: They need six sets of cleaning supplies (one for each room) and each costs $300.

Orphans in Haiti

Average Income: Less than $1 a day

COVID Impact: Money is scarcer than ever. People are kidnapping young children and if their parents can’t pay the ransom, they kill the child and sell the body parts for money.

Ministry Opportunity: In the midst of this autrocity, Pastor Predestin is running an orphanage for 200+ kids and needs support for food, education, and daily supplies.

Missionaries in the Caribbean

Current Income: $40 per month

COVID Impact: In January 2021, the cost for basic survival in this country will be raised to $62 per month.

Ministry Opportunity: Help the 32 missionaries sent to this Caribbean country afford to stay and do ministry by decreasing the gap between their income and the amount needed to survive.

Crisis Pregnancy Center & Theological Training

Current Income: $10 a day

COVID Impact: In war-torn Ukraine, COVID has caused increased financial hardship in a country that has very little capacity to help the poor and needy.

Ministry Opportunity: Luba serves at a crisis pregnancy center to help women get the resources and training they need to choose life, while Alexander travels to small rural churches to train pastors who have no access to seminary education.

A Global Stimulus in Action

A small but mighty church in the refugee corridor has taken up God’s command to care for foreigners by serving Middle Eastern refugees for years with food, clothing, and shelter.

Then even before virus cases were known in Bosnia, the refugee camps were shut and restrictions about food distribution were made. The church in Bosnia acted fast to offer their building as a place for refugees to stay and distribute prepackaged food. Of course, this food was more expensive than what they were preparing themselves.

Live Global shared the news of what was happening in Bosnia, and a North American named Wilma read the story. She gave out of her stimulus to believers in Bosnia, who are serving people who need Christ. This is the note she sent along with it:

“Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings to you from the U.S.A.! I wanted to send you a note to let you know that I am thinking of you and praying daily for you. I’ve read of the Refugees that you have been helping who are now in your country. You are doing as Jesus taught us ~ to reach out to others in need. I trust that the Lord will give you the strength and wisdom you need. I leave this wonderful verse with you “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to yours the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Jesus in John 14:27”
